MANILA, (PIA) — The Caloocan City government distributed P5,000 in cash assistance to rice retailers, in addition to the P15,000 distributed by the national government.

The Caloocan LGU has started the distribution of aid in the Maypajo Public Market.

According to City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan, he earlier promised the P5,000 aid to the local retailers who will be affected by the implementation of EO 39, and they are still ready to provide additional assistance if needed.

On Saturday, September 9, the national government gave P15,000 to small-scale rice retailers in order to lessen the impact of the implementation of the market price cap.

Expect that as long as the market price cap is effective, we will continue to ensure that the rights of consumers are protected while also protecting the interests of local businesses,” Malapitan said.

Malapitan also appealed to the City Council that they can pass an ordinance that aims to remove the rent payment being imposed in their public markets, that will also help retailers save a lot in rent, amid the implementation of the price ceiling.

According to some rice retailers, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s decision will help prevent hoarding, smuggling and profiteering in relation to the staple supply. (PIA-NCR)
