MBLISTTDA temporarily limits use of Kennon Road to residents only

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — Kennon Road has been restricted for use by residents along the zigzag road only effective November 11, 2024.

In the Metro Baguio La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay Development Authority (MBLISTTDA) advisory signed by its chairman, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, the closure of Kennon Road is “to consider the safety of motorists during the persistent inclement weather in the Baguio City and Benguet area.”

The MBLISTTDA also ordered police officers as well as barangay personnel to check proof of residence to ensure compliance that only residents living along the stretch of Kennon Road will be allowed to use the road for now.

The advisory shall remain in effect until annulled, revoked, or superseded by succeeding MBLISTTDA council issuance.

The MBLISTTDA ordered on October 31, the opening of the Kennon Road for light vehicles and Baguio City and Benguet residents only to allow them easier travel during the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Day.

The temporary opening during the Undas was done following the completion of the temporary acrow bridge at the Camp 2 in Tuba, Benguet.

However, traffic congestion was experienced at the Kennon Road particularly at the Camp 2 as the temporary bridge can only accommodate one vehicle at a time.

Department of Public Works and Highways -Cordillera Regional Director Khadaffy Tanggol earlier appealed to motorists to avoid Kennon Road and pass through alternate routes in going to and from Baguio City and Benguet. They are advised to use Marcos Highway and the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road for their safety especially during inclement weather. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
