MANILA, (PIA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. outlined several ongoing and upcoming transportation developments in Metro Manila to address the region’s chronic congestion and improve mobility, in his recent State of the Nation Address.

We are in the midst as well of a railway renaissance,” Marcos said, highlighting the progress of major projects such as the Metro Manila Subway Project, MRT-7, and the North-South Commuter Railway.

The Metro Manila Subway Project has already seen significant tunneling work, with an estimated 3 to 6 stories of a building dug up, and the president promised the construction will continue to the next stations.

Marcos also stated that the MRT-7 and North-South Commuter Railway projects are advancing, and the administration is working to resolve right-of-way issues to ensure infrastructure development is not hindered.

Additionally, the president announced the upcoming operational launch of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project, which will extend the LRT-1 line from Baclaran to Sucat this year, with further expansion to Bacoor in the coming years. The LRT-1 system will also receive 76 new and modernized trains to improve service and comfort for commuters.

Turning to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Marcos said the facility will undergo development under the government’s “Build Better More” program, in partnership with the private sector through public-private partnerships (PPP).

Once considered as among the worst and most stressful airports in the world, it will soon be a world-class international airport that we can be proud of,” the president promised.

These transportation initiatives are part of the Marcos administration’s efforts to address the longstanding challenges faced by Metro Manila residents and visitors in terms of congestion and mobility. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
