MGB-7, CCMRB join hands to combat illegal mining

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region 7 in partnership with the Cebu City Mining Regulatory Board (CCMRB) recently organized an enforcement training program to combat illegal mining in the region.

The training was participated in by the key personnel from local government units (LGUs), law enforcement agencies, and selected barangay units.

“Illegal mining activities pose a significant threat to our environment and communities,” said MGB-7 regional director Engr. Armando L. Malicse.

“By enhancing law enforcement capabilities, we aim to protect our natural resources and promote sustainable development,” he added.

CCMRB chairman Atty. Dominic A. Doño requested MGB-7 to deputize the personnel who attended the training to ensure the effective implementation of mining regulations in Cebu City.

The training program focused on equipping participants with the skills to effectively identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in illegal mining activities including legal frameworks, evidence collection, and enforcement strategies.

The MGB Region 7 speakers were led by Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) legal officer Atty. Klive Eric Ravanes, Engr. Edgardo C. Loquellano, Engr. Edward S. Malahay, and Atty. Gleen A. Revilla-Maravilla.

Through this initiative, Cebu City demonstrates its commitment to protecting the environment and upholding the law.

By empowering its law enforcement officers, the city aims to deter illegal mining activities, mitigate their harmful impacts, and promote responsible mining in Cebu City.

The event culminated with the oathtaking of deputized personnel, signifying their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the environment from the detrimental effects of illegal mining. (HFG/PIA-7 with reports from MGB-7)
