CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The towns of El Salvador City, Sumilao and Manolo Fortich received national recognition for their outstanding nutrition programs at the 2024 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (NNAC) on March 7.
Reginaldo Guillen, National Nutrition Council (NNC) regional nutrition program coordinator, said the NNC awarded seven national honors, including the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award, First Year CROWN Maintenance Award and recognitions for outstanding nutrition officers and program coordinators.
El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental, was one of six LGUs to receive the CROWN Award for implementing nutrition programs for three consecutive years. As a CROWN awardee, El Salvador City received a trophy and ₱500,000.
Sumilao, Bukidnon, received the First Year CROWN Maintenance Award for maintaining its nutrition programs after its initial CROWN recognition. Sumilao earned a certificate and ₱100,000.
Rikkie Mae B. Lucero, municipal nutrition action officer of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, was named National Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Action Officer for her work in improving nutrition in the municipality.
Since 1978, the NNC has recognized LGUs and nutrition officers for their efforts in addressing nutrition challenges through governance, policy and resource mobilization.
Guided by the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, Guillen said the NNC remains committed to addressing the country’s nutrition challenges under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration.(GDA/PIA-10)
