Misamis Oriental opens new jail, expanding capacity to 4,000 inmates

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA) — The new Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) in Barangay Kamelon, Initao town, opened last November 26.

The project, valued at nearly P9 million (P894,599,999.92), spans five hectares and significantly upgrades the province’s correctional facilities.

The complex includes a main building, lecture hall, interfaith center, family visiting center, kitchen site, powerhouse, administrative structure, health facility, personnel dormitory, and other amenities.

Provincial Jail Warden Robert Roy Bahian said the facility could house 2,000 to 4,000 inmates, a massive improvement from the old jail’s 300-inmate capacity.

This facility addresses overcrowding, offering Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) a more spacious, organized, and humane environment. (PIO/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
