PASIG CITY, (PIA) — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) recorded a decrease of 46% in index crimes in Metro Manila in the first half of May this year compared to the same period last 2024.
NCRPO chief PMGen Anthony A. Aberin said that despite the heightened demands of election duties, the police officers remained steadfast in carrying out operations, checkpoint activities, and anti-criminality campaigns. Their relentless efforts brought down the total number of recorded incidents from 287 in 2024 to just 155 this year.
“Our first and fundamental duty is to prevent the occurrence of crimes and we can only do that effectively and consistently if we have a police force that is seen, heard and felt by the community.”
According to NCRPO, a notable decrease across all categories of the eight (8) focus crimes, which are considered key indicators of public safety. Rape cases saw the sharpest drop at 76%, followed by physical injuries at 50%, murder at 38%, and homicide at 43%.
Cases of robbery and theft also decreased by 39% and 37%, respectively, while car napping of motor vehicles dropped by 100% and motorcycles by 13%.
Likewise, NCRPO posted improvements in its case-handling performance. Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) remained consistently high at 90.97%, while Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) rose from 67.60% to 76.13%, reflecting an 8.53% increase.
Aberin assured the public that the NCRPO remains fully committed to further strengthen law enforcement initiatives and continue to work hand-in-hand with all sectors to ensure safer communities throughout the region. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
