MANILA, (PIA) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded motorists that if they can find alternative routes, it would be better to avoid EDSA due to heavy traffic experienced since Monday, Aug. 7.
The MMDA said traffic has been affected by the one-time, big time emergency repairs on EDSA by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The road repairs started last Friday wherein the DPWH began laying asphalt and concrete reblocking in 15 areas of EDSA. It will end by 5:00 am on August 9 (Wednesday).
Likewise, several parts of the EDSA Bus Carousel, from Balintawak to Buendia Avenue were also closed due to emergency repairs that started at 10:00 pm on August 4 and will be completed by 5:00 am on August 9.
However, the MMDA and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) are said to be making preparations including a traffic management plan and the deployment of 650 traffic enforcers to manage traffic flow along EDSA and the prior notification to use alternative routes.
As for commuters, the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) will add up to more than three train sets in the event of a large influx of passengers as a result of one-time, big-time emergency repairs. (PIA-NCR)
