QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday, November 29, successfully rolled out its ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ Project in Pasig City.
The ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ is a sustainability initiative that aims to bring closer the core services of the agency to the masses, especially those that reside in the densely populated areas in Metro Manila.

Clean-up drive, drainage declogging, sidewalk clearing operations, painting of pedestrian lanes, installation of road signages are among the main activities under the said project.
These are conducted by different concerned personnel from the MMDA including the Flood Control and Sewage Management Office, Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, Traffic Engineering Center, as well as the Health, Public Safety, and Environmental Protection Office.
In addition, the MMDA also integrates the reinforcement of environmental responsibility through the provision of orientation sessions on anti-smoking, anti-littering, solid waste management, disaster preparedness, and trash to cash programs to its recipient barangay.
“This project is a form of participatory governance where we pool our resources to address problems in a specific area with a goal to bring forth cleaner and orderly communities and healthier Metro Manila residents,” said MMDA Acting Chairperson Romando “Don” Artes, citing the commitment of the agency to conduct the ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ project in all the local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila.
“We will draft a plan for an integrated drainage system which is essential in keeping continuous water flow and avoiding clogging and eventual flooding in the entire Metropolis,” Artes earlier noted.
The rollout of the ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ project in Pasig City took place in the Pasig City Market, Barangay San Nicholas, and Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Through the project, the city government hopes to encourage its residents to take the green road by collecting single-use plastics which can be converted into essential grocery items.
For its part, MMDA stated its strong support to the climate action initiatives of the local government of Pasig by providing for the establishment of a wider open public space in the city.
Pasig City is one of the first LGUs in Metro Manila to become a beneficiary of the ‘Bayanihan sa Barangay’ initiative.
Last May, the project was first launched in Pasay City followed by Makati City in June. (PIA-NCR)
