MMDA continues to pour clean water, other aid for Bicol

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) continues to provide clean, purified water and other assistance to residents in Bicol who were heavily affected by severe tropical Storms Kristine (Trami) and Leon (Kong-Rey).

In response to President Ferdinand Marcos’ directive to ensure clean drinking water for the affected residents, the MMDA sent a humanitarian assistance contingent to the province on Oct. 23 together with 40 units of solar-powered water purification system equipment.

They still currently provide much-needed clean water for the residents, many of whom were left with extensively damaged homes and livelihoods.

On Nov. 3, the contingent distributed 5,124 gallons of water to 1,132 families in Barangay Ombao in the municipality of Bula, Brgy. Casurao in Magarao, and Brgy. Cagbunga in Gainza municipality.

On Nov. 1, it provided 10,884 gallons of clean water to a total of 2,305 families of Barangay Poblacion in Gainza, Brgy. Ponong in Magarao, and Brgy. Marupit in Camaligan.

Two days earlier, up to 13,907 gallons of clean water were given to 3,307 families from Barangays Sua and Dugcal in Camaligan, Sta. Teresita and Tibgao in Canaman, and Barangay Poblacion in Gainza.

Aside from providing water, the MMDA’s contingent has been helping distribute other aid to the affected residents. These include rice, canned goods, instant noodles, and other essentials that came from donors.

The MMDA also deployed a clearing and search-and-rescue team to Bicol. (PIA DMD)
