QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is taking steps to address the growing problem of “human reservation” in parking spaces.
MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes announced plans to pass a resolution with the Metro Manila Council urging all 17 local government units in the capital region to establish their own ordinances against the practice.
“We aim to create a more orderly parking environment for everyone,” Artes said.
“Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis,” the MMDA, meanwhile, said on Facebook.
Reservation refers to the act of individuals standing in parking slots to save them for others, a practice that has led to disputes and conflicts among motorists.
The proposed ordinances will not only prohibit this behavior but will also outline penalties for violators.
Atty. Artes emphasized the need for a coordinated effort, stating that the MMDA will collaborate with mall owners and private parking operators to find solutions to the increasing incidents of parking disputes.
The resolution is expected to streamline regulations across the region, providing local governments with the framework to enforce penalties effectively.
As the number of vehicles on the road continues to rise, the MMDA hopes these measures will alleviate some of the congestion and frustration faced by drivers in Metro Manila.
The MMDA will hold discussions with stakeholders in the coming weeks to finalize the details of the proposed ordinances, with an eye toward implementation in the near future. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
