QUEZON CITY, (PIA) –The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) kicked off their partnership for the improvement of the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS), which serves as an alternative mode of transportation for commuters.
MMDA and PCG officials, led by MMDA Public Safety Office Head Director Crisanto Saruca Jr. and Coast Guard Rear Admiral Hostillo Arturo Cornelio have committed to enhancing sea transport and revitalizing the Pasig River during the ceremonial presentation of the MMDA-PCG memorandum of agreement at the Guadalupe ferry station in Makati City on Tuesday.
“We are thankful to the PCG for this collaboration. We will have knowledge, assets, and resource-sharing to provide better and improved river ferry service for our commuters as an alternative mode of transportation,” said Saruca.
Under the MOA, the MMDA shall handle all administrative and office matters of the ferry service. It shall also utilize its rescue boats for disaster-related activities pursuant to its public safety mandate for Metro Manila commuters.
PCG will provide personnel to man the ferry terminals and its boats to intensify maritime security and maritime safety for the riding public, especially this holiday season.
“PCG is steadfast in our commitment to deploy safety and security officers on board the ferry boats along the Pasig River. This initiative underscores our unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers,” said Cornelio.
The MOA, anchored on Executive Order No. 35, “Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development, was signed in November this year. (MMDA/PIA-NCR)
