MMDRRMC Chair inspects high-tech mobile command center for 2024 APMCDRR

MANILA, (PIA) — Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) Chairperson and concurrent Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Atty. Don Artes on Monday inspected its high-tech mobile command center (MCC) utilized for the 2024 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), the Philippines’ first hosting of the high-level international event.

Throughout the entire duration of the event that we will be monitoring, together with the OCD and various government agencies, we will check the safety of the delegates and participants,” the chairman said.

The conference running through October 18, hosted by the Philippines in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), aims to accelerate implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in one of the world’s most disaster-prone regions.

Artes was joined by MMDRRMC Senior Vice Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense-National Capital Region (OCD-NCR) Regional Director George Keyser and Regional Incident Management Team (RITM) Leader Dr. Joseph Bacareza, inside the MMDA MMC, in real-time monitoring of the APMCDRR-related activities as well as traffic situations.

Donated by Globe Telecom, the MMDA MCC aims to boost its traffic management and public safety monitoring across the metropolis during big-ticket events.

The vehicle was deployed right across the Philippine International Convention Center, the chosen location of the RIMT’s Incident Command Post.

Artes said the facility is in line with the government’s continuous pursuit of enhancing traffic management and public safety capabilities and promoting resilience in the face of natural or human-induced disasters.

He added that the MCC will enable real-time coordination and communication among the MMDRRMC’s Emergency Operations Center and RIMT personnel in the ICP and on-ground.

Among its many notable features include being linked with the newly enhanced MMDA Communications and Command Center.

It is also equipped with state-of-the-art communications systems such as a portable command and dispatch system, multimode radio, and remote CCTVs and drone capabilities.

It could be used for monitoring significant big crowd events like the President’s annual SONA, and during times of disasters and road emergencies, he further said.

The MCC also boasts of a satellite internet service and can be deployed remotely anywhere in the Philippines as a mobile incident command post.

Other features offered by the MMDA MCC include a surveillance system that has eight deployable cameras that can be monitored through a monitoring video wall. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
