LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — Governor Melchor Diclas assures that more folks will benefit from the HEALTHIER Benguet Caravan which will be brought down to the barangays of the province.
The HEALTHIER Benguet Caravan, a program initiated by Diclas, brings services and programs of the government closer to the people thru the support of the local government units (LGUs), and other government and non-government agencies.
It is aligned with Benguet’s development thrusts on Health, Education, Agriculture, Livelihood, Tourism, Human Resource, Infrastructure, Environment, and Responsive Governance with the acronym HEALTHIER.
Since its inception in 2023, more than 15, 000 people already benefitted from the various services and programs being delivered in the different municipalities and barangays in the province.
The caravan offers free medical consultations, minor surgeries, laboratory diagnostics, eye check-ups with free eyeglasses, and dental procedures to improve access to healthcare.
Veterinary services included livestock vaccinations, deworming, and artificial insemination to support farmers and enhance livestock health.
Social assistance is also extended through food packs for children with special needs, free seeds and seedlings, and paralegal support.
The program also facilitates government services such as PhilHealth membership updates, Philippine Statistics Authority registrations, National Bureau of Investigation clearance processing, and the distribution of land patents.
Other private entities also provide their services such as the Philippine Red Cross and the Lions Club organization.
The governor said the caravan will continue to be conducted monthly targeting to reach the far-flung areas.
“We already provided services and reached the different municipalities in Benguet except for La Trinidad which is scheduled this 2025. We even reached the far- flung barangay Cuba in Kapangan and Kayapa in Bakun last year, so we are now prioritizing the conduct of the caravan in the GIDA areas such as Tacadang and Badew in Kibungan,” Diclas said.
The caravan in La Trinidad is scheduled this January 17 at the Benguet Sports Complex in Wangal.
The governor is encouraging other government agencies and even the private sector to take part in the monthly caravan to provide the needs of the Benguet people. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
