BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – More than 300 Abrenians benefited from the first provincial Labor Day celebration held on May 1 at the Camp Juan Villamor in Calaba, Bangued.
The celebration featured various activities including the Kadiwa ng Pangulo which offered fresh highland vegetables, the Diskwento Caravan offering basic goods at discounted prices, the livelihood fair that showcased the products of local entrepreneurs, the health and wellness booth offering free massage, manicure, and pedicure, and the baking demonstration.
Aside from the services, the distribution of livelihood kits to 39 beneficiaries; livelihood cheques to six associations from Boliney, Lagayan, and Luba; and awarding of TUPAD cheques to 549 beneficiaries from Danglas and Tayun; the payout to 53 Government Internship Program beneficiaries also highlighted the event.
A mobile blood donation drive in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Abra Chapter, Provincial Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, and other private health institutions was also conducted as part of the celebration.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Abra provincial head Christopher Tugadi said that the Labor Day is an opportunity to recognize the efforts and sacrifices of all laborers despite challenges they encounter in their work.
“It is in this occasion that we recognize our laborers for their hardships, commitement, dedication towards their employment in order to make the lives of their families better and eventually contribute in shaping our world,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, League of Municipalities national president, and La Paz Mayor JB Bernos, representing Congresswoman Menchie Bernos as guest speaker, ensured continuous efforts to improve the plight of Filipino workers.
“We will continue to move forward, breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes, and building bridges of understanding and compassion. We will double our efforts to ensure that every worker is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness regardless of their background, identity, or occupation,” he said.
He added that the different services and programs of the DOLE and partner agencies such as the livelihood assistance and TUPAD program serve as first steps towards a better future.
The Labor Day celebration with the theme, “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-asenso” will run from May 1-3 at the Camp Juan Villamor in Calaba, Bangued. (JJPM/PIA Abra)
