TRECE MARTIRES CITY, CAVITE (PIA) – The new subsection of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) will soon open, paving the way for easier passage to Silang and Tagaytay.
In a statement on Monday, the Metro Pacific Tollway (MPT) South Management Corporation said the CALAX exit is now 91 percent complete and is targeted for opening in September.
Ongoing construction activities include the development of the toll plaza, concrete pouring for the main line and median barriers, as well as various finishing works.
In the upcoming phases, the focus will be on the construction of toll facilities, including road lights, signage, and sound barriers. Preparations for the toll collection system are also underway. It is expected to cater to an additional 5,000 daily motorists, providing them with convenient access to these vibrant areas.
CALAX will further expand to a total of 45 kilometers by 2024 and will feature eight interchanges: Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit Interchange.
It will connect to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit. Currently, its operational segments stretch from Mamplasan Rotunda up to Silang East Interchange.
For Benjie of Amadeo, Cavite and a frequent motorist to Tagaytay, he looks forward to the gradual opening of the new tollway as it will lessen the time spent in traffic especially on weekends and holidays.
“Maganda at very convenient para sa mga locals at tourists imbes na dadaan pa sa Sta. Rosa. Malaking ginhawa sa biyahe dahil hindi na matra-traffic. Especially during weekends o aalis ng Saturday. Mas maganda yun at hindi na kami dadaan sa Sta. Rosa at diretso na sa CALAX.”
The Toll Regulatory Board has yet to finalize the toll rates for the new segment. (RF/MPTS)
