BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA)—The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) conducted a three-day campus journalism seminar-workshop as part of its 31st Charter Anniversary celebration.
College President Dr. Edgar G. Cue represented by his executive assistant Shaine Marie K. Macliing inspired the participants composed of student journalists from the various departments of the college to become reliable storytellers and be the voice of the students for the check-and-balance of the institution.
“It is encouraging and hopeful, for with the guidance of subject matter experts of which you are fortunate to have with you for three days, you will be equipped with the tools to become responsible story tellers. Story tellers who are accountable to the truth; put premium on the truth that you are truly reliable story tellers and voice for students, for our community and more importantly, to act as a responsible check and balance for this administration and the entire college” she said.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mark Preston S. Lopez also stressed the importance of ethical standards for campus journalism, and reminded the student journalists to be vanguards of the reputation and image of the college through responsible journalism.
The training involved discussions on Journalism Code of Ethics and Feature Writing by Dr. Obie Noe Madalang, Literary Writing and Graphics Illustration and News Writing by personnel of PIA-Mountain Province, and Editorial Cartooning and Comic Strip Drawing, Editorial and Opinion Writing, Sports Writing, Photojournalism, and Lay-out and Design by MPSPC Management Information System Team.
Aside from capacitating the students with skills and knowledge to produce newsletter, activity also aimed to identify the editorial board of Tala and The Mocking Bird, the official student publications of Tadian and Bontoc Campus, respectively.
The three-day event concluded with awarding ceremony recognizing participants who have exceled in in the training. The Department of Nursing was proclaimed as the overall winner.(JDP/VJLT-PIA CAR)
