QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Director for Operations Officer-in-Charge Ofelia Astrera assured MRT-3 passengers that there are currently no fare hike petitions from its management.
In an interview over Radyo Pilipinas, the MRT-3 official said that they are still waiting for a directive from the central office the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“Sa ngayon, wala po tayong inaasahang pagtaas ng pamasahe. Noong mga nakaraang taon merong mga petisyon, kasabay sana ng dalawang linya [ng tren]. Pero nagkaroon lang ng kaunting technicality. Sa ngayon hinihintay lang yung direksyon ng DOTr central office. Pero sa ngayon, wala po tayong pagtaas ng pamasahe.”
(For now, we don’t expect any fare increase. In previous years, there were petitions along with the other train lines. But there was a little technicality. Right now, we are just waiting for the direction of the DOTr central office. But for now, we don’t have a fare increase.]
According to MRT-3 the current base fare is at P13. End-to-end trip from North Ave. Station to Taft Station is at P28.
Meanwhile, the privatization of the rail line is currently in the works with the terms of reference (TOR) for both its solicited and unsolicited proposals being ironed out.
According to MRT-3 General Manager Oscar Bongon, the TOR for the unsolicited proposal for the rail line’s turnover of operations and management to the private sector is being reviewed by the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center, Asian Development Bank, and the DOTr. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
