BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — The College of Environmental Studies (CES) of Marinduque State College (MSC) is pushing for measures towards envionmental sustainability and climate action
In collaboration with University of the Philippines and De La Salle University, said College recently launched a seminar-workshop entitled “Code Red for the Future” in preparation for the World Environment Day (WED).
With the designation of the United Nations Assembly declaring June 5th as WED, it served as a platform to raise awareness on the problems facing the environment such as air pollution, plastic pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sustainable consumption, sea-level increase, and food security, among others.
Present during the activity were MSC-CES dean Dr. Evangeline Mandia, Dr. Eric Punzalan of DLSU College of Chemistry, and UP Los Baños-Department of Social Development Services Assistant Professor Ron Jay Dangcalan.
Mandia spearheaded the activity and shared her inputs about the topic; Punzalan introduced the idea and practicality of citizen science while Dangcalan discussed the high impact extension projects.
Meanwhile, the Island Ambassador Dr. Randy Nobleza buy-in the Marinduque Studies Knowledge Center to consolidate mining research, environmental studies with a transdisciplinary approach.
He also dedicated a rendition of the poem “Ayon kay Kid Talaba” about the mine tailings disaster which took place 27 years ago that killed the Boac River. (RAMJR/AMKDA/PIA-Marinduque)
