CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSDWO) of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro assures that all the needs of evacuees are provided by the local government amidst typhoon Kristine onslaught.
According to MSWD Officer Alice Cajayon, their team continues to closely monitor evacuees in different barangays affected by flooding in San Jose, namely Brgy. Caminawit, Pag-asa, Brgy. 4, and the island barangays of Ansiray, Inasakan, and Labangan Ilin, to assess their needs and provide support.
Food is the number one commodity that needs to be provided per the MDSWDO’s assessment, said Cajayon.
Consequently, through its MSWDO and barangay government units, the local government provided meals for the evacuees through the community kitchen, where the barangay officials and volunteers cook meals for evacuees in each evacuation center in affected areas.
“Natutugunan naman natin ang needs ng mga evacuees,” Cajayon said.
She added that the evaluation of reported damaged houses in Brgy. Caminawit and Pag-asa is underway to identify possible interventions.
Daisy del Valle-Leaño of the Municipal Information Office said that currently, 175 individuals are in evacuation centers in San Jose, and the number is expected to increase.
Mainland Occidental Mindoro is still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 and a red rainfall warning according to the DOST PAGASA on October 24. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
