Multi-partnership event empowers gay elders

MANILA, (PIA) — A multi-agency, public-private collaborative event took a significant step forward in promoting inclusivity and community engagement held at the historic Intramuros in Manila recently.

Organized by the Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region, the Rainbow Care Caravan featured a range of activities aimed at bringing essential services directly to the senior citizen members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Police Chief Coronel Bogart Arao, speaking as a representative of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), emphasized that the event is part of the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance.

This program aims to push for progress and ensure that everyone is not left behind,” Arao said. “It fosters an inclusive society where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of age or gender.”

Aligned with these goals, he said the NCRPO is committed to upholding peace, equality, and the well-being of all citizens.

The caravan saw active participation from members of the LGBTQIA+ community, including notable figures like celebrity transgender advocate Ice Seguerra, a prominent Filipino actor and singer-songwriter. It is made possibe through the participation of the Intramuros Administration, Lalamove Philippines, Manila City Government led by Mayor Honey Lacuna, PhilHealth, Globe Telecom, Bureau of Communications Services, Golden Gays, Golden Bekis, NCRPO, Department of Public Works and Highways-NCR, National Commission of Senior Citizens, Yamang Bukid, and Getz Pharma.

Their involvement underscored the event’s focus on inclusivity and support for diverse community members.

The Rainbow Care Caravan provided a platform for raising awareness about essential health needs, such as medical and dental check-ups.

It also served as a reminder of the importance of active community participation in fostering a peaceful and inclusive society.

By addressing these gaps, the initiative aims to create a more compassionate and cohesive community,” according to PIA-NCR Regional Director Emver Cortez.

The event also highlighted the broader goals of the Bagong Pilipinas Banner Program, which seeks to bring government services closer to the people, ensuring that no one is marginalized,” Cortez added.

Through activities like the Rainbow Care Caravan, the program endeavors to inspire a more inclusive and engaged citizenry, he further said.

As the nation continues to strive for progress, initiatives like these play a crucial role in building a more inclusive and unified society. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
