Multidisciplinary clinic for PWDs opens in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Baguio City Persons with Disability Affairs Office, in partnership with the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center’s Genetics and Medical Team, has opened a multidisciplinary clinic dedicated to providing specialized healthcare for persons with disabilities, especially those with rare diseases and Down syndrome.

The clinic aims to ensure that every patient receives high-quality medical attention, regardless of the complexities they face. It brings together professionals from various medical fields to address the unique challenges that come with managing rare conditions.

“This clinic represents more than just a new facility. It is, in essence, a home for our patients, a space where the most specialized care can be seamlessly integrated and where the diverse needs of each patient are met with the utmost attention and dedication,” said Dr. Virginia Narciso of the Department of Health-Cordillera.

The establishment of the multidisciplinary clinic also underscores the dedication to prioritizing rare diseases, which often do not receive the same level of attention as more common conditions.

“This clinic is a testament to our resolve to meet the evolving needs of our community with precision, compassion and innovation. We acknowledge that rare diseases often do not receive the same level of attention as more common conditions, yet we know that these patients deserve nothing less than our best efforts, our brightest minds and our deepest care,” Narciso added.

By strengthening partnerships and enhancing medical services, PDAO and its collaborators hope to improve the quality of life for PWDs, reinforcing their right to comprehensive and specialized healthcare. [JDP/DEG/Trisha Reign Batoon- PIA-SLU Intern]
