“With great gratitude, the City Government of Muntinlupa humbly accepts this SDG Award. Much needs to be done but we know that we are on the right and perfect direction–to create a smart, resilient city that complements an ecologically-balanced environment gearing towards our transition to a low carbon future,” said the local chief executive during his acceptance speech.

“While we need to address challenges on stakeholders’ engagement, limited financial capacity, and dynamics on social and behavioral change among our constituents, we want to make EEC a way of life of each and every Muntinlupeño,” he further noted.

Among the important contributions of the city government in the establishment of a climate-resilient future for the country include the institutionalization of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) through the enactment of Local Energy Code and the formulation of Local Energy Efficiency Plan.

The said initiative enabled the local government to develop a need-based policy framework for its energy efficient technologies, energy conservation measures, and renewable energy products in line with the Philippine Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.

Meanwhile, the city government also received a special citation from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) during the 2023 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Awards in recognition of its efforts to support and encourage business opportunities through the implementation of the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Act.

In addition, Muntinlupa gained a total of eight (8) commendations from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the conduct of Exemplary Urban Governance.

The commendations encapsulated the Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Audit, Child-friendly Local Governance Audit, Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking-Violence Against Women and their Children Functionality Audit, Local Council for the Protection of Children Functionality Audit, Peace and Order Council Performance Audit, Implementation of the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program, and Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) Kalinga Regional Recognition.
