DUPAX DEL NORTE, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) –- Nueva Vizcaya Governor Jose Gambito urged the members of the Bugkalot tribe to maintain their unity towards the progress and development of their communities.
The governor made the call during the 3rd Bugkalot Ilongot Day celebration in Barangay Binuanga, Dupax del Norte, which drew the participation of members of the Bugkalot Confederation from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, and Nueva Ecija.
With the event, members of the ‘Bugkalot’ tribe received various healthcare services through the Mobile Health Clinic of the Provincial Local Government Unit.
Gambito praised the tribe’s tradition of settling internal disputes through the ‘Tungtungan’ (dialogue) or conflict resolution system.
“The Tungtungan system is a significant practice that strengthens the harmonious relationships within the Bugkalot community. With this, disputes are resolved within the community, eliminating the need to escalate cases to the courts. This exemplifies the unity and solidarity of the Bugkalot people,” he said.
The ‘Tungtungan’ system is a traditional conflict resolution method where community elders mediate disputes, fostering dialogue and consensus without the need for formal legal proceedings. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
