National ID System offers biometric verification

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is encouraging government and private offices to use the National ID Authentication Service for easier and faster verification of the Philippine Identification System card, including printed and digital versions.

Gerard Tolito of PSA-Cordillera explained that offices incorporated into the system can verify the identity of people conducting transactions through biometrics.

“The advantage of our authentication service is that even if you forget to bring your national ID, as long as you’re registered and have your national ID number, the PhilSys number, just present yourself because the mode of authentication is through biometrics,” Tolito explained.

Tolito said offices incorporated into the system must have a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner or a camera that can authenticate the identity of the person conducting the transaction.

“Even a simple laptop camera, a webcam or a cellphone camera can be used to scan the face of the person transacting with you. Since you are already incorporated with the national ID, you can access information about that person in the national ID registry and verify their identity,” he stated.

Tolito said that once an office integrates its system into the national ID registry, it can easily capture client information, reducing form-filling time and other processes.

He also said offices can verify the identity of beneficiaries they aim to assist, such as those in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, once they integrate into the system.

“Our system can print verification that the person is verified, so we can be sure,” Tolito assured.

The first to apply for integration into the system in the Cordillera region is the local government of Tublay, Benguet.

Interested offices may visit their local PSA office or the PSA website at psa.gov.ph for more information. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
