CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — Mobilizing various sectors to collaborate in creating a safe and equitable environment for women, various government agencies and local organizations led by the Gender Advocates Normin, Inc. graced the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW (violence against women) kickoff on November 25.
With the 2024-2027 recurring campaign theme, “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines,” and its 2024 sub-theme, “VAW Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras (“End VAW, Now is the Time),” the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW in the region began with a motorcade from Rodelsa Circle to the 4th Infantry Division’s Montalvan Hall Gymnasium, where a short program marked the start of the initiative.

“For the next 18 days, we will dedicate our time and energy to this crucial cause. Our theme, “VAW, Bigyang Wakas, Ngayon na ang Oras,” is a powerful call to action. It’s a reminder that we cannot afford to delay. The time for decisive action is now. This campaign isn’t just about raising awareness. It’s about sparking change. It’s about fostering a community where everyone, women, feel safe, respected, and valued,” said GANI President Maj. Daisy Baguio.
She also highlighted the group’s plans to visit vulnerable communities and shelters, such as Balay Silungan in Barangay Alae, to offer support to women survivors of abuse.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-10) and the Philippine Army joined the campaign, reaffirming their commitment to eradicating violence against women and children.
“Our agency is in full support of ending this violence against women and children because we will not be here and being multiplied in this world without them. Respect begets respect, but it is always in relation to love. And love is in relation to God because God is love,” said FSSupt. Richie Fable, regional chief of staff of BFP-10.
Col. Romeo Jimenea, chief of the Division Provost Marshal of the Philippine Army, echoed similar sentiments, saying the campaign highlights the importance of understanding gender perspectives in addressing societal issues.
He said the Philippine Army, known to be a male-dominated organization, fully acknowledges that it is just right to conduct continuous activities that enlighten their soldiers and civilian personnel on women’s rights, especially in the working space.

“Likely so, know that the Armed Forces of the Philippines is one with you in supporting this cause and will continue to take steps to eradicate traditions that perpetuate violence against women and children. We further assure you of our strong commitment to this advocacy all throughout, not just during the 18-day campaign, but every single day,” Jimenea added.
Activities planned for the campaign include educational seminars, community outreach, and policy discussions aimed at empowering women, holding perpetrators accountable, and broadening public awareness about laws protecting women and children. (RTP/PIA-10)
