Nat’l Museum Ilocos invites Ilocos Sur residents to sign up for conservation workshop

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) in Region 1 urged the residents of Ilocos Sur to register for the conservation training workshop to be held on November 20.

Frolaine Dannang, acting head of the NMP-Region 1, said “Through the NMP Ilocos Region, under the Office of the Director for Northern Luzon NMP, we are going to conduct this activity to promote [conservation] to our number one stakeholder, which is the people, because it is us, the locals, who preserve our culture; not only the tangible but even the intangible cultures that we have now.”

The workshop titled: “Let’s Learn from the Conservators! Painting, Paper, and Textile Collections Care” is not limited to the invited cultural workers who work in private and public museums in the region.

“This is open to the public—open to all and free, no adda interesado a kayatna iti makasursuro ken makaadal mabalinda ti sumali (if there are people interested to learn, they can join),” Dannang said.

She added, “They can check the official page of the NMP Ilocos and click the registration link or scan the QR code so that we can all learn how to properly preserve our cultural properties.”

There are methods, according to Dannang, that they can learn to do on their own, and there are also those that require the intervention of experts.

She explained that being a heritage province, the families in Ilocos Sur must have antiques that they can conserve for the next generations to see.

Resource speakers for the activity, which will be held at the NMP Ilocos Regional Museum Complex in this city, are specialists from the NMP Fine Arts Division and Ethnology Division.

They will tackle the preventive conservation of paintings, works on paper, and Philippine textiles for the one-day event through talks and demonstrations, as well as through hands-on activities for the participants. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
