QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The local government of Navotas intensified its campaign against cervical cancer by providing free HPV vaccines to adolescents in the city.
Adolescents aged 9 to 19 years old from different barangays were able to receive the HPV vaccination which offers protection against the strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections that commonly cause cancer, including cervical cancer.
HPV is one of the vaccine-preventable diseases that the Department of Health (DOH) seeks to control in order to improve public health outcomes.
The national health department, through its ‘Bakuna Eskwela’ school-based immunization program, encourages all parents and guardians to make an informed decision about the health of their children through availing of the free HPV vaccines.
“We call on the parents and guardians to ensure that our children are vaccinated. These vaccines are proven to be safe and effective. Together, we can protect our children from vaccine-preventable diseases,” said DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa during the rollout of the Bakuna Eskwela in Manila in October 2024.
To date, immunization remains to be the priority health program of the government as the most effective public health intervention to protect populations from life-threathening diseases.
The rollout of the free HPV vaccine in Navotas started on January 21, 2025 and all eligible population is encouraged to go to the nearest health centers in their barangays to avail of the vaccine.
Requirements include valid ID or school ID and birth certificate for proof of age and the NavoRehistro QR code for easier access to local government services. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
