QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The city government of Navotas continuously implements programs to ensure that the needs of students are being provided.
On Monday, August 14, City Mayor John Rey Tiangco signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the 28 new academic scholars of the local government for school year 2023 to 2024 which include 15 incoming first year high school students, 11 incoming college freshmen, and two teachers pursuing postgraduate studies.
“Deserving Navoteño learners should get access to quality education without worrying about their finances. The support they receive through this scholarship enables them to dream big and work towards achieving their aspirations in life,” said the local chief executive.
The scholarship entails book, transportation, and food allowance amounting to P18,000 for high school students and P22,000 for scholars from the Navotas Polytechnic College (NPC) which will also cover their tuition fee.
Meanwhile, teacher-scholars will receive P75,000 for the same expenses including a research grant.
On the other hand, the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment Institute produced a total of 206 skilled workers. Of these, 24 received national certification (NC II) for Shielded Metal Arc Welding, 12 for Electrical Installation and Maintenance, 7 for Dressmaking, 24 for Hairdressing, and 15 for Massage Therapy.
A total of 40 trainees likewise completed the training for Bread and Pastry Production, 15 for Food and Beverages, and 20 for Barista, while the other 27 received the similar certification for learning the Japanese Language and Culture and 22 for Korean Language and Culture.
“Seize every opportunity to learn. Continuous self-improvement and empowerment is the best investment you can make,” Tiangco said.
To date, the city operates a total of four training centers that are open to residents for free. Non-residents, however, may still take assessment examinations and avail of the training offerings for a fee that will depend on their chosen course.
Following the recently culminated 2023 National Athletic Meet (Palarong Pambansa), the local government also gave recognition to student-athletes who actively represented the city.
In particular, the individual gold medalists will receive a cash incentive worth P4,500 while the silver medalists will be given P4,000, and P3,500 for bronze awardees per sports event.
In addition, the sports delegates who won as a team will be awarded with P4,000, P3,500, and P3,000 for each gold, silver, and bronze medal.
