CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-10, the premier investigative agency in Northern Mindanao, reported significant successes in its operations during the first half of 2024.
One of the most notable accomplishments was the rescue of minor victims from child sexual exploitation materials (CSEM) distribution. In a joint operation with the NBI Manila Human Trafficking Division and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-10, NBI-10 agents successfully apprehended the perpetrator. They provided necessary support to the rescued children.
“The result of this investigation is excellent. The person involved here has already been convicted,” said NBI-10 Regional Director Atty. Patricio Bernales Jr. during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum on Tuesday, October 1.
NBI-10 made significant strides in addressing environmental crimes and illegal activities, dismantling illegal mining operations in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City, and Opol, Misamis Oriental. The agency also seized over 4,000 prohibited LPG cylinders from ISLA’s Plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, leading to multiple arrests and charges.
NBI-10 agents also demonstrated their commitment to national security by arresting a suspect involved in the misuse of electronic devices and the possession of sensitive military data. The suspect was apprehended in a joint operation with the Philippine Navy.
“This is a case of national significance. The accused was involved in the hacking of the Philippine Navy’s website and was able to obtain highly confidential information. This guy is now facing trial for his crimes,” Bernales added.
NBI-10, also known as the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Office (NEMRO), is headquartered in Cagayan de Oro City and has jurisdiction over three provinces: Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, and Camiguin, as well as five cities: Cagayan de Oro, El Salvador, Gingoog, Malaybalay, and Valencia. The agency also oversees two district offices: the Bukidnon District Office and the Iligan City District Office, which extends its jurisdiction to the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, including the cities of Iligan and Marawi.
