NBI intensifies campaign against cybercrime in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Region 2 has reported that nearly 80 percent of the cases currently filed with the agency are related to violations of the cybercrime law.

Assistant Regional Director Victor Lorenzo said the NBI is taking significant steps to address the rising incidence of cybercrime in the region.

He noted that the types of cases being reported include online scams, investment fraud, online prostitution, child pornography, love scams, and identity theft.

Lorenzo revealed that this year alone, there have been over 70 active investigations into online investment scams and ongoing inquiries into love scams.

“We are intensifying our campaign against these crimes to raise awareness among vulnerable sectors of the community and highlight the growing threat of cybercrime,” he stated.

In addition to its focus on cyber offenses, the NBI has achieved notable successes in tackling illegal drug activities, protecting intellectual property rights, combating human trafficking, and handling high-profile cases in the region.

Lorenzo encouraged anyone seeking assistance with specific cases to contact the NBI, even if they have previously filed reports with other law enforcement agencies. (OTB/PIA Region 2)
