CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) MIMAROPA is focusing its efforts on curbing the spread of cybercrimes in the region.
Regional Director Gelacio D. Bongngat, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on October 1, said that they were directed by their newly appointed NBI Director Jaime Santiago to look into online scam incidents.
“Puspusan po ang mga ginagawang hakbang ng tanggapan upang tugunan ang problema sa cybercrime sa ating rehiyon alinsunod sa order ng aming NBI director,” he said.
Bongngat emphasized that among the current programs of the office is the formation of cybercrime divisions in different regions of the country to further strengthen the suppression of said problem.
Also, the NBI plans to add NBI agents who have sufficient knowledge when it comes to cybercrime detection.
“Dito sa amin sa [NBI] MIMAROPA region, iilan lang yung aming ahente and we are almost serving 500,000 people here. So, it is a challenge for us kasi kulang kami sa tao pero marami kaming bakante, kaya kailangan namin na mag-hire ng mga agents lalo na yung mga may background na sa cybercrime,” Bongngat said.
NBI assured that they will work on various fronts, including investigating cyber fraud, hacking incidents, and online exploitation for a safer digital environment. (ALG/PIA MIMAROPA)
