NBI set to highlight expanded role in Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas

QUEZON CITY, Oct. 1 (PIA) — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will take center stage in today’s 19th episode of “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas”, happening at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Auditorium in Quezon City.

The forum will feature NBI-National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director Rommel J. Vallejo, who will lead the discussion on the NBI’s evolving mandate and modernized approach to combating contemporary crimes.

This week’s episode will delve into how Republic Act (RA) 10867, passed in 2016, has transformed the NBI from its original focus under RA 157, which covered more traditional investigative functions, to an agency equipped to address more complex and global crimes such as cybercrime, human trafficking, corruption, and terrorism.

Director Vallejo will discuss how the reorganization and modernization under RA 10867 has provided the NBI with advanced tools and enhanced coordination with international law enforcement to combat transnational crimes effectively.

The NBI-NCR, which plays a crucial role in investigating high-profile cases within Metro Manila, will also highlight its efforts to tackle crimes prevalent in urban areas, including cybercrime and drug trafficking.

With its modern mandate, the bureau is committed to impartial investigations and close collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to protect the public and uphold justice.

Additionally, the episode will cover the importance of public cooperation in crime prevention, with the NBI-NCR urging citizens to report any suspicious activities, as every detail can contribute to maintaining national peace and order.

The forum is also set to provide a comprehensive look into the challenges and opportunities facing the NBI-NCR as it navigates the demands of modern law enforcement, especially in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas is organized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) to bring timely, relevant, and accurate information about government programs and services to grassroots communities nationwide. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
