NCRPO heightens inspection at checkpoints

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — In preparation for the National and Local Elections (NLE) in May, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) heightens its operation at checkpoints to ensure the safety and security of the public.

NCRPO chief PBGen Anthony A. Aberin ordered intensified checkpoint operations in coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

NCRPO will maximize the conduct of these checkpoints in coordination with COMELEC pursuant to our intensified security preparations for the incoming elections,” said Aberin.

Aberin also reminded police officers to strictly adhere to police operational procedures and give utmost respect to all.

Since the implementation of the COMELEC gun ban, the NCRPO has seized 60 firearms and explosives, and arrested 59 individuals in possession of illegal firearms. Likewise, more checkpoints were established to increase security and prevent the proliferation of loose firearms in the metropolis.

Since the start of the gun ban last January 12, a total of 2,164 COMELEC checkpoints have already been conducted by NCRPO through the concerted efforts of the five police districts in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO strongly urges the public to cooperate with authorities, to be vigilant and to report suspicious activities. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
