BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) together with Philippine Red Cross Baguio City Chapter initiated a mass blood donation at SM Baguio City on Monday(Oct. 7, 2024) in celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week (EFW).
NCSC Projection Development Officer III Roxanne Waig said that the blood donation drive connects with the younger generation to the elderly and aligned with the EFW 2024 theme, “Senior Citizens – Building the Nation, Inspiring Generations”.
“Akma [rin] po itong blood donation drive natin to inspire generations, akma siya sa EFW theme natin na ang mga younger generations ay tumulong din sa mga senior citizens na kung sakali mangangailangan ng dugo. And we are encouraging the younger ones to connect in their generational connection with their loved ones na senior citizens,” Waig said.
Anthony Jimenez of the Philippine Red Cross Baguio City Chapter said that they partner with different organizations when they conduct blood donation drives.
“Usually po nakikipagpartner po sa’min ‘yong iba’t-ibang organization within the Baguio City po. So upcoming po meron po kami sa Malcolm Square po,” he said.
Jimenez encouraged the public to donate more blood because one bag of blood can help save three lives. This will also ensure ample blood supply in the city to cater to anyone who is in need of blood.
Alongside the blood donation drive, the NCSC also conducted registration of senior citizens in its database. [JDP/DEG/Yira Bernardino, PIA CAR- PHINMA UPang Intern]
