CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) led the Trabaho Para sa Bayan (TPB) Regional Consultation for Region 10 on 22-23 October 2024 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, this city.
This two-day event gathered key stakeholders from government agencies, private sector organizations, employers, labor groups, and basic and informal sectors to align the national 10-year TPB Plan, as mandated by Republic Act 11962, with the specific needs of Northern Mindanao.
Participants delved into labor market dynamics, regional industry profiles, and future work trends. Director Patrick P. Patriwirawan of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Bureau of Local Employment presented a study on Generation Z in the Philippine labor force, underscoring challenges like skills gaps and job mismatches, highlighting the growing digital economy and freelance opportunities.
Through Design Thinking workshops, the consultation identified barriers such as limited digital infrastructure and proposed solutions like upskilling and adopting hybrid work models.
NEDA-10 Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño encouraged regional agencies and the private sector to engage with the TPB Inter-Agency Council to maximize the plan’s impact on employment generation and economic growth.
“This collaboration is not only essential for the effective implementation of the Plan but also for maximizing its impact on job creation, economic growth, and social development,” she said.
Region 10 held its second-to-last consultation in a series of regional discussions leading up to the TPB Plan’s finalization in November 2024. By engaging stakeholders and refining strategies through the consultations, NEDA aims to craft a robust TPB plan that effectively meets the employment sector’s specific needs, laying the foundation for a “Matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay.” (NEDA-10/PIA-10)
