CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Negros Oriental Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria highlighted the critical role of the public information officers during the 26th Regional Association of Development Information Officers (RADIO) 7 Convention held in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
“I know this is not an easy task. Your job is tireless, often thankless, and requires you to be on call 24/7. But I want to assure you that I see your efforts. I see the passion and dedication you bring to your work, and I fully support you. That’s why I had no hesitation in backing this event—because I believe in the importance of what you do,” said Sagarbarria in his speech during the second day of the convention.
He cited the importance of the information officers in the local government units (LGUs) in ensuring that government programs and services will reach the community and experienced by the people.
“So even though the work is tough, know that you are needed. We need you, I need you, the people need you. You are essential in making sure that the public stays informed, that truth prevails, and that government remains accountable,” he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts done by the government communicators in delivering accurate, timely, relevant and truthful information using the social media platforms.
“Being a journalist, a writer, or a public information officer is a craft that not everyone can master. You are the storytellers of our government and the bridge between the public and the truth. And I hope that this event inspires you further, helping you hone your skills because at the end of the day, it is the people who benefit from your work,” he added. (HFG/PIA-7)
