NegOr honors 126th anniv of Dr. Jose Rizal

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Jan. 3 (PIA) — The Knights of Rizal of Negros Island commemorated the 126th anniversary of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, in a Flag-raising and Wreath-laying Ceremony here.

Hundreds of local officials, government employees, members of civic organizations, students, and school officials participated during the Rizal’s Day on Dec. 30, 2022 at the Manuel Quezon Park under the theme “Rizal: Alaalang Iningatan, Yaman Ngayon ng Bayan.”

The event started with the sounding of sirens and tolling of church bells followed by the raising of the Philippine flag as the national anthem was played led by the 302nd Brigade and 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army with the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and event Protocol Officer Capt. Gerard Jutzse Pamate.

The event was part of the National Rizal Month celebration in Central Visayas which was led by the Knights of Rizal Regional Commander Sir Rafael Crescencio Tan, Jr. and Area Commander for Negros Island Charles Ezra Anthony Tuozo.

According to Penn Larena, member of the Knights of Rizal, a special knighting, elevation, exaltation, and awarding was held in a ceremony presided over by Supreme Commander Sir Gerardo V. Calderon, KGCR.

Dumaguete City Mayor Sir Felipe Antonio Remollo, KCR and Deputy Mayor/ Councilor Sir Rey Lyndon Lawas, KCR were also inducted into the order alongside of six recipients of the National Service Medal for nation-building and patriotism, including Dr. Kenneth Coo, Penn T. Larena, Rodolfo Jull Locsin, Alden Rabina, Reu D. Ismil, Ambassador Sir Macarthur Flores Corsino, KGOR, former PH Ambassador to Cuba for National Service Cross Award.

The month-long celebration also highlighted a Rizal Symposium, Rizal Quiz Bee and Rizal Poster Making Contes at Puregold Bayawan with Knights of Rizal Bayawan City Chapter. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from Penn Larena)
