NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — The province’s top official urged Public Information Officers to educate their fellow Negrenses about the dangers of calamities.
“We must continue to educate our fellow Negrenses about the dangers they face and how they can protect themselves and their families (from disasters),” Governor Eugenio Lacson said during the recent two-day seminar-workshop for Negros Association of Government Information Officers and Liaisons (NAGIOL) and other government personnel in Bacolod City.
“In this task of disseminating knowledge, you, our information officers, are the key instruments to accomplishing this task,” the governor added.
He said disasters do not distinguish and affect all people, so communities should work together to strengthen resilience and preparedness to mitigate impacts and protect resources.
“As we have this workshop, let us be reminded that although challenging, we are not helpless in the face of nature’s forces. We can significantly decrease the loss of life and property during calamities by committing to risk reduction and disaster preparedness,” the governor said.
Lacson noted that Disaster Risk Reduction and Management requires effective communication where information officers play a vital role in reaching out to the masses.
“You are the bridge between the authorities and the public, ensuring that critical information reaches our communities swiftly and accurately, especially in times of crisis,” he said. (AAL/Lljr/ PIA6 Negros Occidental)
