Network of Brgy Info Officers established in Antique

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The local government unit (LGU) of Hamtic, Antique established its network of Barangay Information Officers (BIO) intended to improve the delivery of government information in their town.

 

In connection, the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office 6 (PIA-6) and Hamtic LGU held a two-day Public Information Dissemination Training on July 25-26 and participated in by 45 designated BIOs.

 

The training, spearheaded by PIA-6 officers, sought to capacitate the village officials in communicating government programs, services, and policies, especially those related to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

 

PIA-Antique Manager Pilar S. Mabaquiao discussed the concepts of development communication; PIA-6 Information Officer Franz Remar Garion discussed the rationale of the BIO, followed by a presentation on DRRM reporting and social media management; and PIA-Antique Information Officer Ceasar Susbilla discussed media relations as an integral part of DRRM reporting.

 

Furthermore, Garion underscored the importance of BIOs as their village’s gateways of truthful and relevant government information, which the public can use for improved decision-making, self-improvement, and community-building.
