The establishment of eight new Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) stops across Aklan Province strengthens the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) commitment to improve the lives of Filipino commuters.
Transportation Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor emphasized this during the inauguration ceremonies of the six PUV stops in Kalibo and two in Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay, Aklan today, 04 April 2025.
“Laging bilin ni Secretary Vince Dizon na magpatupad tayo ng mga proyektong makatutulong sa mga commuters. Those who have less in life should have more in wheels, and more in facilities,” Usec. Pastor said.
The newly constructed PUV stops are equipped with a range of modern amenities aimed at making commuting more convenient and less time-consuming including PWD-designated seats, tactile pavers, benches, security cameras, solar panels, concrete bollards and lighting systems.
The PUV stops also have charging stations and integrated bike repair stations which can help not only commuters, but also cyclists.
The inauguration of the new PUV stops is consistent with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s mandate to alleviate the plight of Filipino commuters by providing them access to safer, more efficient and more sustainable transportation options.
Undersecretary Pastor led the inauguration ceremonies, together with representatives of Aklan Governor Jose Enrique M. Miraflores and Kalibo Mayor Juris B. Sucro, as well as Malay Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista.
