New ‘Aleng Pulis’ hotline to beef up VAWC response

MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday advised the public that they have activated the Aleng Pulis 24/7 hotline 0920-9071717 aimed at providing immediate response and support for victims of violence against women and children (VAWC).

According to Police Major Meriel Reyes of the PNP Women and Children Protection Center, this hotline will serve as a crucial lifeline for VAWC victims, in addition to their WCPC Aleng Pulis Helpline through Facebook messenger, ensuring they have access to the help they need, when they need it.

Sa pamamagitan po ng Aleng Pulis hotline, mayroon po 24/7 na investigator na nakalaan dyan, nagbabantay, nagre-respond at nagbibigay ng assistance,” Reyes said, during a press conference hosted by the Phlippine Information Agency in Quezon City, to promote the observance of the 30th National Crime Prevention Week from September 1 to 7.

Here’s our hotline number: 0920-9071717. Victims can reach out by calling, sending a text message or SMS, or through the Aleng Pulis 24/7 Helpline Facebook page at facebook.com/pnpwcpc.alengpulis,” she added, emphasizing the two channels’ role in enhancing public safety and support for vulnerable individuals.

This hotline will serve as a crucial lifeline for victims, ensuring they have access to the help they need, when they need it, Reyes said.

The Aleng Pulis hotline will facilitate direct communication with local government units (LGUs) and relevant agencies to provide timely assistance to victims. It aims to create a seamless system of support, connecting callers to law enforcement, health services, and counseling resources.

The establishment of these channels, she said, reflects the PNP’s commitment to combat VAWC in our communities with the promise of safety and support for those who need it most.

The hotline is expected to be crucial in tackling the urgent issue of VAWC. While cases involving children decreased from 19,101 to 18,756 between 2022 and 2023, there was a concerning increase in cases involving women, rising from 12,524 to 13,795 during the same period.

Reyes also reported that from January 1 to June 30 of this year, the Aleng Pulis 24/7 Helpline received various VAWC-related complaints totaling 912 through their Facebook messenger, 145 through calls, and 17 through SMS or text messages.

These engagements, she added, have resulted to a total of 713 complaint referrals to the nearest police station, 40 complaints referred to their respective barangays, 144 to Family Court, and 12 WCPC investigations.
