New drug rehabilitation center opens in Abra town

DILG-Cordillera Director Araceli San Jose, Mayor Conde Turqueza, and PDEA-Abra Investigation Officer V Randy Pulmano lead the inauguration of the new Dolores Rehabilitation Center in Poblacion, Dolores on January 17, 2025.

DOLORES, Abra (PIA) – A drug rehabilitation center  opened in  the municipality of Dolores, Abra, to serve Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUD) recover and return back as functional members of society.

 Mayor Conde Turqueza said that the facility was funded through the Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive of Dolores with counterpart from the local government.

[Drug pushers ken users need to be rehabilitated in a proper venue – a rehabilitation center. It was timely that the LGU won in the SGLG with a prize of P1.8 million which was used for this center, with augmentation from the municipal government.]

The center that was inaugurated on January 17, 2025 will cater to community-based drug rehabilitation programs. It will also help implement anti-illegal drug programs and activities of the municipality.

“This will benefit recovering drug users and contribute to the functionality of the anti-drug abuse council of Dolores,” Department of the Interior and Local Government -Cordillera Director Araceli San Jose stressed.

San Jose challenged the municipality to  strive  to be an awardees of this year’s Anti-Drug Abuse Council Performance Audit and Awards.

 Meanwhile, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency -Abra Investigation Officer V Randy Pulmano shared the importance of the center in the implementation of the barangay drug-clearing program.

 “The barangay drug-clearing program is not only intended to clear the drug addicts or clear the drug problem in our community. It is also a means that will curb criminality,” he highlighted.

The Dolores Rehabilitation Center is currently undergoing compliance, especially of facilities for the establishment of a Balay Silangan that will expand drug rehabilitation and recovery services in the town. (JJMT, PIA-CAR, Abra)
