New ecotourism site rises in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) — The city government of Santiago in Isabela is set to open a new ecotourism destination following a significant groundbreaking ceremony of the Dariuk Hills Eco-Tourism Center project in Barangay Balintocatoc, recently

The project, once completed, will provide a sustainable ecotourism hub that will contribute to the local economy and promote environmental preservation.

In her remarks, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco expressed her admiration for the city’s commitment to developing the project in partnership with the DOT.

She emphasized the significance of the ecotourism center, stating that it will be a space where nature and innovation can thrive, fostering community-based tourism while offering residents opportunities for employment in future tourism activities.

“We want to ensure that the current biodiversity of the Dariuk Hills is respected and preserved, even as modern, technology-driven tourism facilities are developed,” Frasco added.

Her words also reinforced the national government’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices that align with the vision for the future of the city.

Mayor Alyssa Sheena Tan also shared her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Santiago City.

She noted that the ecotourism center would provide an avenue for both culture and nature to intertwine, offering visitors a chance to experience the area’s diverse indigenous traditions.

The Dariuk Hills Eco-Tourism Center will be jointly funded by the DOT’s Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority and the City Government of Santiago, with additional support from the office of 4th district Representative Joseph Tan. The project, which is expected to be completed later this year, is anticipated to boost tourism and economic activities in the region.

As a critical part of the tourism development plan, the Mayor also said the eco-tourism center will not only provide a venue for eco-friendly tourism but also create lasting economic and social impacts by empowering the local community.

“With this initiative, Santiago City is poised to become a key destination for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike,” Tan said.

She also said the groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Santiago City, one that will combine sustainable development with cultural preservation, ensuring the area’s natural beauty and heritage are shared with future generations of travelers.(OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
