New fencing hall to rise to enhance UP’s sports academic facilities

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — A new UP Fencing Hall Multi-Purpose Building will rise soon to boost the athletic facilities of UP Diliman, Quezon City.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office will lead the construction of the new fencing hall building to enhance the sports academic facilities of the university.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by UP Diliman President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez; UP Diliman Chancellor Atty. Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan; Dean of the College of Human Kinetics Prof. Francis Carlos B. Diaz; Hon. Richard I. Gomez, Congressman, 4th District of Leyte; DPWH Quezon City 2nd District Engineer Johnny L. Protesta, Jr.; and other officials and guests.

The project will replace the current UP Fencing Hall, as well as the strengthening, and conditioning room featuring several key components designed to enhance the university’s sporting infrastructure.

According to DPWH, a 477-square-meter Fencing Hall, complete with five aluminum pistes and two large-sized toilets with individual locker rooms, a VIP lounge, and upgraded strengthening, and conditioning rooms on the second floor to benefit both student-athletes and visitors alike.
