LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur Nov. 6 (PIA)- Major General Gabriel C. Viray III, the newly appointed division commander of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division in the Philippines Army, is determined to bring about a future marked by stable peace and unity in the region. His commitment was made evident during the change of command ceremony held on October 25.
LtGen Roy Galido, commanding officer of the Philippines Army, graces the change of command ceremony as the guest of honor and presiding officer.
MGen Viray expressed his dedication to the mission and emphasized the importance of working together with local leaders in the region during his speech.
“The only thing I can offer is more hard work. Beginning today, I will be needing your help more than ever for the accomplishment of our mission. With that, I look forward to be working with all the local leaders of our area as I take up the mantle of responsibility,” MGen Viray said.
Meanwhile, LtGen Roy M. Galido, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, graces the ceremony as the guest of honor and presiding officer.
LtGen Galido emphasized the importance of clear communication in order to ensure smooth and seamless collaboration within the team in his speech. He reiterated that when his guidance and command guidelines are not clearly understood, it hinders effective teamwork.
He outlined the key principles represented by the acronym ARMY. “A” stands for always pray, reminding us that prayer can provide clarity and direction when we are confused. “R” emphasizes the need to be reliable, responsive and relevant. “M” underscores the mission-oriented approach; while “Y” calls for individuals to yield their personal comfort and interests for the greater good of the unit, community, province, country, and the Filipino people.
Moreover, BGen Barroquillo returned to his former assignment to the 103rd Haribon Infantry Brigade in Marawi. He relinquished his command after a short stint of service as a commander in the division.
MGen Viray was the former deputy chief of staff for civil-military operations (CMO) J7. He confidently accepted the challenge of leading the 1st Tabak Division Philippine Army and expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for entrusting him with this responsibility.
“I am honored and privileged to lead the 1st Infantry Tabak division of the Philippine Army. Together, we will face the challenges ahead with courage and determination and unity. I will lead by example promoting integrity, accountability and respect for the rule of law,” he said.
As the new commander of 1st Tabak Division MGen Viray brings a wealth of experience and proven track record of leadership along with a deep understanding of the division’s mission and a commitment to the welfare of its soldiers.
