MARAWI CITY (PIA) — Farmers in the municipality of Lumbayanague in Lanao del Sur received new infrastructure designed to support their agricultural activities.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform – Philippine Rural Development Project (MAFAR-PRDP) Regional Project Coordinating Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) turned over a newly constructed P12.7 million trading post and three warehouses with solar-powered dryers, each valued at P5.6 million, on December 20, 2024.
MAFAR-BARMM Chief of Staff Arphia T. Ebus, representing Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, led the turnover ceremony, joined by Lumbayanague local government officials.
Ebus emphasized the trading post’s vital role in facilitating agricultural product marketing.
“The project creates a central hub for farmers to sell their products, while the warehouses with solar dryers provide much-needed storage and drying facilities for farmers in Barangays Bualan, Wago, and Miniros,” Ebus stated.
The trading post is in Barangay Kabasaran, the municipality’s center, while the warehouses with solar dryers are strategically placed in the agricultural barangays of Bualan, Wago, and Miniros, ensuring farmers easy access to post-harvest facilities.
Funding for the projects came from the World Bank’s Second Additional Fund, with co-financing support from the European Union.
Municipal Councilor Aminodin M. Gunting lauded the initiative, noting its potential to enhance agricultural productivity.
“This project will greatly benefit our farmers and residents. We hope it will contribute to the continued growth of Lumbayanague’s agricultural sector,” Gunting said.
