New WestMinCom Commander envisions unified forces to achieve campaign objectives

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – Major General Steve Crespillo was inducted as the 17th commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) during the change of command ceremony held on September 5.

Crespillo currently serves as the Vice Commander of Philippine Army and has held the position of chairperson on numerous boards and committees. He has also been responsible for overseeing crucial policies, plans, and programs. The appointment of his successor is pending.

The Philippine Army Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner graces the ceremony as the presiding officer. General Brawner emphasized the challenging role of being a commander in WestMinCom, “here in WestMinCom you find all kinds of threats, all kinds of enemies are here in the area, thus, the selection of commander is a very careful process,” he said.

General Brawner also commended the efforts and achievements of Lieutenant General Roy Galido who served WestMinCom for the past seven months highlighting his firm leadership in steering the men and women of the command and his consistent deployment of naval operations and aerial surveillance and the prompt conduct of humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations in the area. Considering also that the past months have been crucial in the units fighting the remaining communist terrorist groups and local terrorist groups.

Moreover, LTGEN Galido in his term as the commander shares that maintaining a good working environment will deliver good performance. His focus was to successfully eliminate tools of violence, violent people and violent environment with the help of all local stakeholders.

Crespillo confidently accepted the challenge as the new commander and expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the trust and confidence to his capability in leading WestMinCom, “I urge everyone to stay focus in contributing to individual and group effort to accomplish our campaign objectives.
