New Year’s celebration in Kalinga generally peaceful

Confiscated illegal firecrackers and improvise cannons were ceremonially destroyed by the KPPO together with the BFP, the Office of the Provincial Health Office, and other stakeholders at the Camp Juan M. Duyan on December 31, 2024.

TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) –  Kalinga Provincial Police Office (KPPO) Acting Provincial Director James D. Mangili said the New Year celebration in Kalinga was “generally peaceful” due to the cooperation of the community.

“Agyaman kami unay iti tattao iti cooperation yu, dagiti timmulong ti kapulisan ta sigun iti panang-asses mi ti panangselebrar tayo iti baro a tawen ket kaasi ti apu ket generally peaceful,” Mangili said.

While the celebration was largely peaceful, Mangili reported one incident of indiscriminate firing, three victims  of illegal firecrackers with minor injuries, and one person injured by a stray bullet.

“Base iti official report mi ditoy Kalinga, ket adda ti nabiktima nga tallo iti illegal firecrackers ken maysa nga indiscriminate firing. Ken daytoy maudi nga nai-report nga victim iti stray bullet,” Mangili said.

The PNP-Kalinga also confiscated 1,600 illegal firecrackers and 160 improvised cannons, known locally as “boga”.

“Ket adda met dagitoy nakumpiska tayo nga illegal firecrakers nga with a total of 1600, ken 160 improvised boga,” Mangili said.

“Agyaman kami ta daytoy ket resulta met lang ti panangtulong yu iti probinsya tapnu nalinak ken natalna ti panangsangbay tayo iti baro a tawen,” he added. (RGA-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
