TITAY, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the by-pass and diversion roads in Barangay Culasian, Titay town, enhancing connectivity and spurring economic growth.
The Php70 million project, implemented by the DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay 2nd District Engineering Office, hoped to address the challenges of rough, unpaved roads in the area.
Residents and farmers of Barangay Culasian now enjoy smoother access to markets with the completion of the by-pass and diversion roads.
Harold Abuan, resident and local farmer, expressed his gratitude for the project, highlighting its impact on their livelihood.
“With these new roads, we can now deliver our harvest on time and in better condition, which means higher income for our families,” he said.

The 237-meter paved road, 6.10 meters wide, enhances travel and transport efficiency. Added features like pipe culverts, stone masonry, and metal guardrails ensure durability and traveler safety.
The initiative made it easier for local farmers to transport their produce to bigger markets. Reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings further enhanced visibility, ensuring safer journey for all road users.
The improved infrastructure opened development opportunities for Barangay Culasian and nearby areas. It provides a safer, more efficient route for farmers to access larger markets, boosting economic growth.
The project shows the government’s support for rural communities and local economies. The DPWH has provided a lasting solution that benefits both farmers and the entire community.
With better market access, Barangay Culasian residents can expect economic growth and improved living standards. The project highlights the importance of prioritizing rural infrastructure. (EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
